Top critics loved the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN for gaming, mainly owing to its 360 Hz display. They also admired its low input lag and response time for gaming and deemed the built-in NVIDIA Reflex analyzer to be a valuable add-on to diminish latency. However, they did not like its low contrast ratio and lack of WCG.

Overview

The ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN is a mid-range gaming display that was first released in 2020. Like the best-rated monitors in its category, this model features a 24.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS panel. However, best of all, surpassing even some of the most popular gaming monitors in the industry, this display features a native refresh rate of 360 Hz, which is incredibly helpful for esports gaming. Similar to their ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A, the brand claims this monitor also features a panel response time of just 1 ms. And just like the ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQ gaming display, ASUS also advertises the presence of HDR on this model, and it features a special full-sized USB Type-A port to accommodate its built-in NVIDIA Reflex analyzer feature.

Consensus

our Verdict

Our group of vetted critics adore the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN for gaming, primarily thanks to its 360 Hz display. Expert reviewers over at RTings.com were awestruck by its low response time and input lag at its native refresh rate in their tests while gaming, and they also loved its built-in NVIDIA Reflex analyzer to improve the latency and the overall experience even further, just like the MSI Oculux NXG253R gaming monitor. They also appreciated its fantastic color accuracy out of the box, as tinkering even with professional calibrating tools didn’t result in a stark difference. As a result, they recommend this model both for gaming and video editing in SDR.

However, editors at Tom’s Hardware were disappointed by its fairly low contrast ratio, which they measured at 1296:1 in their tests. Despite supporting HDR input signal, they found that this display does not have wide color gamuts for true HDR, as it only covers about 51.5% of the Rec. 2020 color space.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Supremely high 360 Hz native refresh rate
  • Exceptionally wide viewing angles
  • Superb color accuracy out of the box
  • Excellent reflection diffusion
  • Extremely low response time and input lag for gaming

Reason to Avoid

  • Mediocre black levels
  • The contrast ratio isn’t good enough
  • Lacks any form of local dimming
  • HDMI 2.0
  • The lack of a wide color gamut for true HDR

Both ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN (the monitor on this review) and the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QNR perform absolutely identically in all regards, as both models feature the exact same display panel along with NVIDIA’s Reflex latency analyzer technology. However, besides the included stand, the PG259QNR also comes with a desk mounting clamp inside its box, which the PG259QN doesn’t.

The ViewSonic ELITE XG251G gaming monitor and the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN perform very similarly for the most part, as both feature 360 Hz IPS panels. However, when it comes to ergonomics and quality of life additions, ViewSonic’s display leaves ASUS’ panel miles behind, thanks to its built-in ELITE RGB ambient lighting, sight shields, mouse bungee, and a reinforced headphone hook.

The Dell Alienware AW2521H quite easily thrashes the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN gaming monitor when it comes to ergonomics and peak brightness, as it can reach up to 467 nits in HDR in a 50% window, compared to ASUS’ 355 nits. But on the other hand, ASUS’ display features better color accuracy out of the box and noticeably better reflection diffusion.
