Overall, the M4500 is a pocket-friendly smart TV fit for a basic user who prioritizes simplicity. Its low brightness and middling color quality may be discouraging, but it is very easy to use.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Samsung M4500 TV is an entry-level 720p TV announced in mid-2017. The HD Smart display uses LED display technology and has a 60Hz refresh rate, but this is quite limited compared to what the Best TV’s have in store.

Nonetheless, the display uses PurColor technology to display color in accurate detail, and it also has Micro Dimming Pro technology to better enhance its contrast and deliver deeper blacks and brighter whites.

The display runs on the Samsung Smart Hub, which grants easy access to popular streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu.

The TV’s support for WiFi connectivity is something it shares with the Samsung Q60B, which we’ve also covered in our Samsung Q60B QLED TV review.

In terms of inputs, the M4500 features 2 HDMI ports, 1 USB, 1 Ethernet, 1 Component, and 1 Composite input, but there’s no support for HDR or Dolby Atmos content.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Samsung M4500 TV is an entry-level 32-inch screen that’s low on peak brightness tested at 205 nits, but its 4,593:1 contrast ratio delivers dark blacks and bright whites, even without local dimming.

Viewing angles are poor since its brightness washes out at 41°, but reflection handling is superb courtesy of its semi-gloss screen finish. Color accuracy is awful out of the box, but it improves significantly after calibration, with a color dE rating of 2.12.

The display is also limited to a 720p resolution, so it cannot be used for 4K content.

The display is limited to two HDMI, one USB, and 1 Digital Optical Audio Out, plus one Ethernet port and it has no support for HDR10 or Dolby Vision content.

The Samsung M4500 is more of an indoor display, while the Samsung LED Outdoor TV works best for use outdoors. The latter is also available in larger 55, 65, and a 75-inch screen sizes than the M4500, available in 24, 28, and 32-inch variants. If that sounds appealing, then check out the LED Outdoor in our Samsung LED Outdoor Full Sun 4K TV review. The Samsung M4500 TV is available in a 24, 28, and 32-inch screen sizes, while the Hisense H4F is only available in a 32 and 40-inch screen size. They both share a 720p resolution, but their panel types are different, with the H4F being an IPS panel and the M4500 being a VA panel. Their VESA mounts are also different, as the H4F has a VESA 100×200 VESA mount, while the M4500 uses a VESA100x100 mount. In terms of contrast, the M4500 has a much better 4,593:1 contrast ratio for deeper blacks compared to the H4F, at 1,041:1. We’ve covered the H4F in our Hisense H4F review.
