Consensus

our Verdict

The LG B2 OLED TV handles reflections well in brightly lit environments but struggles to combat heavy glares, given its overall peak brightness tested at 377 cd/m².

However, it has a near-infinite contrast ratio of Inf: 1 and perfect black uniformity, creating deep, inky blacks that enhance movie-watching in dark rooms. Additionally, its wide 70-degree viewing angle ensures consistent image quality from various seating positions.

For gaming, the TV shines with features like HDMI 2.1, VRR support, low input lag, and a quick 100% response time of 2.4 ms, providing a smooth gaming experience, especially with its 120 Hz refresh rate.

The TV’s webOS smart platform offers many apps, while its upscaling capability improves low-resolution content. Also, the plastic portion housing the inputs feels somewhat cheap.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Excellent visual quality
    • The TV’s bright and detailed color, deep blacks, and quick-firing pixels make it a top choice for sports, gaming, and HDR content. The color gamut is tested at 98.97% DCI P3 UV, which is very wide and provides incredibly detailed colors. This ranks near the top of our certified, tested TVs (ref).

  • Infinite contrast ratio
    • Provides deep, inky blacks, especially for HDR content in dark rooms, given its contrast ratio of Inf: 1, which sits at the top of the OLED category.

  • Wide viewing angle for consistent image quality from the sides
    • Excels for large audience viewing as image quality doesn’t degrade at off-angles given its wide, 70-degree viewing angles.

  • Impressive motion handling
    • The TV processes commands without delay and handles screen changes without blurriness, given its tested 6.0 ms input lag and 0.2 ms response time, both among the top for OLED TVs (ref).

  • Fast refresh rate
    • Fast-paced scenes are smooth with no tearing due to its 120 Hz native refresh rate and VRR support.

Reason to Avoid

  • Brightness often can’t combat heavy glare in bright rooms
    • Visual quality diminishes when viewing in bright rooms because of its sub-par peak brightness, tested at 377 cd/m², which is lower than the average OLED category.

  • Sound distortion at high volumes
    • As users turn the volume up, the built-in speaker distorts, which can be inadequate if you desire cinematic quality

The LG B2 OLED TV is a mid-tier option compared to the more premium and pricier LG C2 OLED Series. Both models have the exact same peak brightness for non-HDR content, but the LG C2 Series has better brightness when watching HDR content. The C2 Series also experiences much less banding when viewing HDR video. We have a great LG C2 OLED series review if you want to check out the two in further detail.

The LG A2 OLED TV is the bottom-tier offering in LG’s OLED lineup. The main difference between the A2 and the B2 series is that the B2 series performs better in terms of peak brightness and has better brightness during HDR viewing. The LG B2 OLED TV also features a handful of gaming functions not offered in the A2, such as HDMI 2.1 and VRR support. You can check out our LG A2 OLED TV review if you want to learn more.

The Samsung S95B OLED TV is superior to the LG B2 OLED TV in brightness. The S9B5 has a brighter HDR experience and offers a full-color range, making it much more enjoyable to watch brighter videos in rooms with a lot of ambient light. On the other hand, the LG OLED is better for watching content with deep blacks because the Samsung has more reflections. Also, the LG B2 OLED TV has no blooming, given it uses seld-emissive OLED tech. Samsung does not use this, and as a result, there is some blooming.

The LG B2 OLED TV offers notable upgrades compared to its predecessor, the LG B1 OLED TV. The main benefit that the B2 offers is enhanced peak brightness. Also, the LG B2 features improved gaming performance with HDMI 2.1 ports and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, providing a smoother game and an updated webOS interface. The B2 also eliminates the analog output, meaning you won’t be able to connect a set of wired headphones.
