Product Snapshot

Overview

The Reyee RG-E5 is a budget dual-band WiFi 6 mesh router launched in 2021. It has eight antennas and supports MU-MIMO, but unlike the best routers, it lacks the 6GHz band. Its maximum bandwidth extends to 800Mbps over 2.4GHz and 2400Mbps over 5GHz, but it lacks advanced security measures like WPA3.

Nonetheless, parental controls are included with the app, allowing you to schedule internet usage times. Ports include 1 x 1Gbps WAN port and 4 x 1Gbps LAN ports, but no USB ports exist. Lastly, the router has a dual-core processor.

Consensus

our Verdict

The dual-band Reyee RG-E5 is a budget mesh router for medium to spacious homes requiring fast WiFi speeds. Its download speeds of 129Mbps (2.4GHz) and 602.4Mbps over 5GHz are suitable for 4K, 8K, AR, and VR streaming and competitive gaming across a few devices, ranking in the top third of our certified tested routers list.

The 90-feet range is adequate for medium to large homes and is scalable because it’s a mesh system. Setup is simple, taking only 10 to 15 minutes, and can be done through the mobile app or an internet browser. Security, however, is subpar because there’s only WPA2 and no WPA3, anti-malware, or VPN client. Parental controls are pretty basic, allowing you to schedule internet usage times, but no age-based filters or history reports exist.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Fast WiFi speeds
    • The Reyee RG-E5 is great for data-hungry households needing enough internet speeds for gaming, simultaneous 4K or AR/VR streaming, and colossal file backups. It has a good close-range throughput of 212Mbps over 2.4GHz and 882Mbps over 5GHz.

    • Its download speeds of 129Mbps over 2.4GHz and 602.4Mbps over 5GHz are speedy and rank in the top ⅓ and ¼, respectively, of our verified tested routers list.

  • Wide range
    • Its 90-feet wireless coverage is excellent for medium to large homes, ranking in the mid-third of our certified tested routers. Since this is a mesh system, the range is highly scalable.

  • Swift set up
    • Set up takes only 10 to 15 minutes and can be done easily over a mobile app or web browser.

Reason to Avoid

  • Mediocre security solutions
    • Security features on this router are subpar because you don’t get WPA3, VPN, or anti-malware tools. There’s only the outdated WPA2.

    • Parental controls are too basic. You can control internet usage, but history reports and age-based filters are missing.

(The E5 has a bandwidth of 2400Mbps over 5GHz and 800Mbps over 2.4GHz. The E4 has a bandwidth of 2402 Mbps on the 5GHz band and 574 Mbps over 2.4GHz.) Although both routers lack USB ports, the E5 has one additional port over the E4. (The E5 has 4 x 1Gbps LAN ports and 1 x 1Gbps WAN port, while the E4 has 3 x 1Gbps LAN ports and 1 x 1Gbps WAN port).

The Razer Sila AC3000 is a more expensive router than the Reyee RG-E5 and has an additional band. (The Sila has one 2.4GHz band and two 5GHz bands. The E5 has a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz band). The E5, however, has a much broader 90-foot coverage than the Sila’s limited 30-foot range. The E5 also has faster download speeds than the Sila, making it more suitable for data-intense activities. (The E5 downloads 129Mbps over 2.4GHz and 602.4Mbps over 5GHz. The Sila is slower at 40.35Mbps over 2.4GHz and 226Mbps over 5GHz). To learn more, read our detailed Razer Sila AC3000 review.

The Netgear RAX20 has a much higher download speed than the Reyee RG-E5, making it more suitable for data-hungry homes. (The RAX20 has a download speed of 560Mbps over 2.4GHz and 2480Mbps over 5GHz, while the E5 has a rate of 129Mbps over 2.4GHz and 602.4Mbps over 5GHz). But while the E5 is a mesh router with highly scalable coverage, the RAX20 is a standalone router. Check out our full Netgear RAX20 review here.
