The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM’s stellar picture quality and blazing-fast performance make it an easy choice for PC gamers, but the lack of HDMI 2.1 makes it a hard sell for next-gen console gamers.

Overview

The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM is a premium gaming monitor that was released in April 2023. Unlike other top-rated computer monitors, the ASUS features many advanced gaming features like an ultra-high 240Hz refresh rate and VRR support for enhanced motion handling thanks to AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility. The display also offers a 1.8 ms response time.

The ASUS ROG Swift monitor utilizes an OLED panel with a 1440p display resolution and HDR capabilities, similar to many popular gaming monitors today. For connectivity, the ASUS ROG offers HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort options but lacks any USB-C support. To learn more about a similar OLED model, consider reading our Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240 review.

Consensus

our Verdict

With a tested 2ms response time, incredibly smooth 240Hz refresh rate, and outstanding picture quality, the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM is an excellent gaming monitor for casual and hardcore gamers. The 1440p OLED panel offers a near-infinite contrast ratio for true blacks and HDR support that takes full advantage of the monitor’s 94.8% color gamut to create vibrant colors. You’ll also get support for VRR options with NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync.

The ASUS offers extensive adjustability, built-in cable management, and a wide variety of inputs. Unfortunately, the monitor only supports HDMI 2.0, so gaming consoles won’t be able to use the monitor to its fullest capacity. The ASUS ROG is also expensive, so if you’re looking for something budget-friendly, you may need to consider alternative options.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Stellar Picture Quality
    • The monitor’s OLED display offers a tested Inf:1 contrast ratio, which means it boasts near infinite contrast ratio. This results in true blacks for superior dark scene performance and perfect black uniformity.

    • The display also boasts a sharp 1440p resolution and 94.85% color gamut, which ranks in the top 20% of monitors we analyzed in this category. This stellar picture quality results in a more immersive gaming experience.

  • Fast Response Time
    • This monitor offers a 2ms response time, which is in the top 20% of certified tested gaming monitors on our list, making it the perfect choice for fast-paced gaming.

  • Low Input Lag
    • With a low input lag of around 13.9ms, the ASUS ROG Swift monitor offers average overall performance as compared to other tested gaming monitors on our list. It’s low enough for most fast-paced games.

  • High Refresh Rate and VRR Support
    • With a 240Hz refresh rate, you’ll get smooth motion handling and minimal screen tearing.

    • The monitor also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) functionality compatible with NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync.

  • Wide Viewing Angles
    • This OLED monitor offers wide viewing angles with color washout starting at 70-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, which ranks at the very top of gaming monitors in this category. If you plan to play couch co-op games or watch movies with friends, this monitor will serve you well.

Reason to Avoid

  • No HDMI 2.1 Support
    • The monitor only supports HDMI 2.0, which means the PS5 and other next-gen gaming consoles won’t be able to take advantage of the monitor’s full capabilities.

  • Low Overall Brightness
    • Measuring at just 311 nits of brightness, this monitor can struggle in well-lit environments and sits in the bottom half of tested monitors for this metric in this category.

Both the ASUS and the Dell Alienware AW2723DF are 1440p monitors with an impressive 240HZ refresh rate. However, the ASUS offers an OLED panel for deeper blacks and better darkroom performance. The Alienware’s refresh rate can be overclocked to 280Hz if so desired, which makes it slightly more appealing to competitive gamers. The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM offers an OLED panel for less blooming and deeper blacks when compared to the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN’s standard LED display. However, the ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN offers a much higher refresh rate at 360Hz than the ROG Swift OLED’s 240Hz, which is better for fast-paced or competitive gaming. It also gets brighter than the OLED alternative.
