With above-average cleaning, low noise output, and good battery life, the Shark ION AV753  is worth its entry-level pricing. However, its navigation is poor. It also has an average dirt canister size and lacks mopping.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Shark Ion Robot Vacuum AV753 is an entry-level robot vacuum launched in 2021. It features WiFi connectivity for remote control through Alexa/Google Assistant or its smartphone app. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an anti-allergen HEPA filter, which is a staple for the best vacuum cleaners.

It also has three brushes in total, where two side brushes help clean edges and corners. The AV753 has a max noise output of 58.6dB, and even though owners can schedule cleaning times through its app, they won’t be able to set up virtual barriers. Check out the best robot vacuums for that.

Consensus

our Verdict

Though it has only basic navigation, without automatic obstacle avoidance and smart mapping that high-end robot vacuums typically offer, the Shark ION Robot Vacuum is a good value choice for those seeking a straightforward robotic vacuum. Cleaning performance is good, with up to 94.2% dirt pickup on bare floors and 52.2% pickup on low-pile carpets. It also picks up to 71% of pet hair, and this cleaning performance makes it above average compared to other alternatives on our certified, tested list. The Shark app is useful and offers voice control, but it’s not as intuitive as some.

The noise output is 58.6 dB, which is very low. Battery life is an exceptional 179 minutes, but charge time is 236 minutes – nearly four hours. The ION has trouble picking up pet hair and fine debris and allergen filtration is poor since it lacks a HEPA filter. The .01 KPa tested floor suction isn’t impressive but matches other entry-level robot vacuums.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Good bare floor cleaning performance
    • The AV753 picks up 94.25% of debris from bare floors. This earns it an above-average placement compared to other robovacs in its category.

  • Low noise output
    • The AV753 has a noise output of about 58.6 dB, which places it among the top 10% quietest robovacs on our certified, tested list.

  • Long runtime
    • The AV753 has a 179-minute battery life, which is quite long compared to other robovacs in its category.

Reason to Avoid

  • Basic navigation capabilities
    • The Shark Io AC753 has basic navigation, as it lacks room mapping capabilities. It moves randomly around its coverage area.

  • Below-average pet hair & carpet cleaning performance
    • The AV753 only picks up 71% of pet hair & 52.2% of debris from carpets, which is below average compared to other alternatives in its category.

  • Average dirt canister size
    • The AV753 has an average 0.4-liter dirt compartment, and it also doesn’t ship with a separate docking station that would house a larger dirt bag.

The Shark Ion Robot Vacuum AV753 has a longer runtime compared to its counterpart, the Shark Ion Robot Vacuum RV761, making it the preferable pick, especially for large cleaning areas. However, the RV761 can hold slightly more dirt compared to the AV753. Go ahead and check out our Shark Ion Robot RV761 review if you’re interested in what else the RV761 has to offer.

The Shark Ion Robot Vacuum AV753 differs from the Shark RV1001AE in that the latter comes with IQ navigation for row-by-row coverage when cleaning, while the AV753 does not. Besides that, the RV1001AE also supports home mapping & room cleaning and comes with a self-cleaning brushroll – advantages it has over the AV753, allowing for much better navigation and cleaning efficiency.
