Expert Rankings

The Shark ION F80 delighted reviewers with its impressive maneuverability and long run time. They also liked how well it could clean hard floors. However, it has a limited selection of attachment tools and takes very long to charge. Product reviewers also did not appreciate its lack of a HEPA filter.

Product Snapshot

Overview

Announced in 2018, the Shark ION F80 is a mid-tier stick vacuum that is very easy to carry around, courtesy of its 8.38-pound weight.

It has a 77-minute battery life that is good enough for cleaning small to medium size spaces and a flexible wand that offers better maneuverability than some of the best vacuum cleaners on the market.

Its build quality is also quite good, and with a noise output of 69.8 decibels when cleaning bare floors, it is almost at par with a lot of other Shark vacuum variants, as you’ll see in our Shark ION P50 Upright review.

The F80’s 0.28-liter dirt compartment is not very large so it might need frequent emptying after use. Check out our Shark Apex UpLight review for more info on a model that has a larger 0.7-liter dirt canister.

Consensus

our Verdict

Expert testers praised the Shark ION F80 for its outstanding maneuverability and performance on bare floors. Reviewers from Rtings were pleased that its wand was extendable, allowing them to clean below furniture during their tests.

They also liked that it could pick up 100% of large and small debris on bare floors. If you have a look at our Shark EZ Robot Self-Empty AV911S review, you’ll notice that the F80 performs much better than the AV9111S on low pile carpet, picking up 77% and 68% of large and small debris.

Critics from Vacuums Guide were also impressed with its battery life, as they could clean for up to 1 hour and 20 minutes. This is much longer than the 63-minute runtime that we compared it to in our Shark Cordless Vertex Pro Powered Lift-Away vacuum review.

However, the F80’s limited array of tools was disappointing to some critics, and its long 420-minute charge time was also not impressive. Reviewers also lamented its lack of a HEPA filter.

The Shark ION F80 has a small 0.28-liter dirt compartment compared to the Shark IZ163H, which, as you’ll see in our Shark Rocket Pet Pro with MultiFlex IZ163H review, has a larger 0.5-liter dirt canister.

It also has a higher suction rating of 0.33 kPa, which is more than the 0.27 kPa offered by the Shark Pet Pro. However, the F80’s battery lasts longer, with a runtime of 77 minutes compared to the Shark Rocket Pet Pro’s 42 minutes.

The Shark ION F80’s 0.28-liter dirt canister may not be able to hold as much as the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute’s 0.45-liter dirt compartment, but it does offer a longer 77-minute runtime compared to the V10’s 63-minute battery life. However, the V10 has an anti-allergen HEPA filter while the F80 does not, and it is also lighter to handle, weighing 5.97 pounds compared to the F80’s 8.38 pounds.

The Shark ION F80 is easier to maneuver than the Dyson V11 Animal since its wand can bend 90 degrees. However, the V11 has a larger 0.45-liter dirt canister compared to the Shark ION F80’s 0.28-liter dirt compartment. The V11 also takes a shorter 240-minutes to charge compared to the F80, which will require 420 minutes.
