The Shark ION Robot R76 pleased expert testers with its long battery life and how it handled large debris on hard floors and both high and low pile carpets. However, it has difficulty with small debris and also requires high maintenance. Also disappointing is its lack of a HEPA filter.

Overview
The Shark ION Robot R76 was announced in 2019 as an entry-level robot vacuum cleaner with up to 183 minutes of battery time, which can outlast some of the best vacuum cleaners on the market.
It comes with a 0.4-liter dirt compartment that will probably need to be emptied after every cleaning session since it doesn’t come with a self-emptying base – check out our Shark EZ Robot Self-Empty AV911S review for an alternative that does.
Thanks to its support for WiFi connectivity, the R76 can also be remotely controlled from a smartphone. It can also be integrated with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to allow for voice control, and since it is equipped with proximity sensors, it can avoid bumps and collisions with furniture.
It has a suction force of 1470Pa and a relatively low noise level when cleaning.
The Shark ION Robot R76 delighted reviewers with its battery life. Experts from Rtings liked that the R76 kept running for more than two hours when set to its Max suction power mode.
When they switched it to Eco mode, the R76 lasted three hours. In both instances, the R76 lasts longer than other Shark variants – see our Shark ION P50 Upright vacuum review.
Critics also commended the R76 for its bare floor performance, noting that it cleared up 97% and 99% of large and small debris on its highest setting. They also liked how it handled high and low pile carpet, picking up 74% and 53% of large debris, respectively.
However, the Shark ION Robot R76 struggled to pick up small debris, clearing 20% and 19% of small debris on high and low pile rugs.
Testers were also disappointed with its high maintenance needs and recurring costs since its pre-motor filter, brush roll, side brushes, and the front wheel will need to be cleaned almost weekly and replaced every six to twelve months.
