Top-tier testers liked how well the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 was built and were also pleased with its long battery life. They felt that the WONDERBOOM 2 had great portability and that its bass depth was impressive for its size. However, they complained that the speaker lacked WiFi connectivity, speakerphone functionality, and voice assistant support.

Product Snapshot

Overview

First announced in mid-2019, the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 is a compact, entry-level Bluetooth speaker with up to eight color choices. It also weighs less than a pound, making it one of the most popular speakers to get, especially for users who prioritize portability. Pairing it with other devices is pretty simple to do via Bluetooth, and like most standard to highly rated Bluetooth speakers, it can handle up to two simultaneously connected devices at any one time. The speaker’s 360-degree design allows it to create a wide soundstage, and since it is both dust and waterproof, it is ideal for use outdoors. If you’re looking for an outdoor speaker that’s a little more inconspicuous, check out our Theater Solutions B83GR review. According to the manufacturer, its battery lasts up to 13 hours, which is great for users who want to move around with their music. While the WONDERBOOM 2 could still technically work as a computer speaker, a more viable option would be the Logitech Z130. These are a pair of small-sized speakers that also offer decent bass and are meant for a desktop setting. Check them out in our Logitech Z130 review.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 was hailed by expert testers for its impressive build quality (a highlight it shares with the Braven BRV 1, which we’ve covered in our Braven BRV 1 Bluetooth speaker review), as well as its wide soundstage and excellent portability. Reviewers from Rtings were also impressed with its battery performance since, during their tests, the speaker lasted about 13 hours before its battery ran out. Still, the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3 lasts much longer, averaging up to 17 hours. We’ve also covered it in our Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3 review. The WONDERBOOM 2 was also lauded for its clear vocals, while testers from What HiFi also liked that it had a deep bass output despite its small size.

Testers were not as pleased with its missing WiFi connectivity. The Yamaha MusicCast 50 supports WiFi, so go ahead and read through our Yamaha MusicCast 50 review to see if you’d be interested in it. Testers also didn’t appreciate the WONDERBOOM 2’s lack of speakerphone and voice assistant functionality.
