The Acer Predator XB273U wowed experts with its 270Hz refresh rate and satisfying HDR performance. They also liked its build quality and wide viewing angles but were a bit disturbed by its mediocre black uniformity. Unfortunately, this is also a glaring issue with the Asus TUF VG27VQ, but its contrast is much better than that of the XB273U.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Acer Predator XB273U is an entry-level 27-inch computer monitor that was first available in 2020. Like most top tier computer displays and other highly rated gaming monitors such as the very popular Acer Predator X25 and the BenQ Zowie XL2546K, the XB273U also handles reflections well and has a rapid 5.4ms response time to prevent motion blur. Its 270Hz refresh rate is also high enough to prevent screen tearing. Its wide color gamut delivers a satisfying HDR experience, as it boasts a commendable DCI-P3 coverage of 96.1%, and Its 1440p screen resolution provides a sharp image.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Acer Predator XB273U is a 27-inch monitor that top-tier experts have regarded as an excellent option for all-round use. Reviewers from Rtings were quite excited with its 270Hz refresh rate and credited this to how smooth its transitions were. Critics were pleased that its ergonomics were just as good as the Asus ROG Strix XG27UQ. Its 1440p screen resolution is higher than that of the Acer ET241Y, so testers from Tom’s Hardware were also pretty happy with the crisp images they got.

Still, the XB273U’s low contrast ratio was a concern among many product testers, as they observed that its blacks looked gray in a dark room. This, as well as mediocre black uniformity, are issues it shares with the Acer Nitro XF252Q.

  • Wide viewing angles
  • Superb ergonomics
  • Great build quality

The Acer Predator XB273U’s 270Hz max refresh rate is significantly higher than the 170Hz that the Acer Nitro XV272U allows for, but other than that, the two displays are pretty much similar. They’re both great for gaming and have a brightness rating of 371 and 383 nits respectively.

While the Acer Predator XB273U may differ from the Samsung G7 (and the AOC CQ27G1) as far as panel types, both are still great options for gaming. The G7 is a VA panel, with a response time of 7.3ms and an input lag of 3.1ms while the XB273U is an IPS panel, which has a response time of 5.4ms and an input lag of 2.3ms. All factors considered, the XB273U remains the better choice, thanks to its wider viewing angles and higher 270Hz max refresh rate compared to the G7’s 240Hz.

The Acer Predator XB273U proves to be a better pick over the Acer Predator XB271HU mainly because of its faster 1ms response time, a brightness level of 281 nits, and dual HDMI 2.0 inputs.

A few features make the Acer Predator XB273U better than the Dell Alienware AW2721D. It has a higher 270Hz max refresh rate compared to the Dell monitor’s 240Hz and also features reflection handling. The two are both similar in that they’re both 27-inch monitors (like the Viewsonic VP2768-4K) that have a Variable Refresh Rate and supports HDR10 content.
