The Beyerdynamic MMX 150 wired headphones offer a great soundstage, an impeccable boom mic, and effective noise-canceling features. The main drawback is comfortability for users with larger ears.

Product Snapshot

Overview

Released in 2021, the Beyerdynamic MMX 150 headphones are built for high-quality gaming and recording experiences, similar to many of the best gaming headsets on the market. The audio frequency range sits at 5 Hz to 30 KHz, and the detachable META voice boom microphone is designed with a cardioid condenser to eliminate background noises.

The headphones have a wide compatibility range, connecting via USB-C to PC, Playstation, and Switch and via an analog cable to Xbox. The headphones are closed-back with a dynamic transducer, 40 mm driver, and a 32 ohm impedance for multiple connection possibilities. They also have a dedicated noise-canceling feature.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Beyerdynamic MMX 150 is built to enhance high-quality gaming experiences. The soundstage is broad with a 5 Hz – 30,000 Hz frequency range and delivers accurate bass, mids, and treble. Additionally, they feature a closed-back design, which significantly eliminates outside noise, which is boosted by the dedicated noise canceling feature. The detachable meta voice microphone has a dynamic frequency range of 5 Hz to 18 KHz, which produces a very natural sound, making it great for recordings and streaming.

The headphones do have comfort issues, mainly for those with larger ears. The earcups are small and can constrict the ears, causing discomfort after several hours of use. However, the headphone design is durable and has a handful of intuitive volume controls.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Superb audio quality
    • These headphones are fantastic for gaming, with a rich, wide audio sound for high-quality gaming. The 5 Hz – 30,000 Hz frequency range provides accurate low sounds, clear dialogue and mids, and balanced highs.

    • Frequency response is above average, placing it in the top 25% of the category. Additionally, the closed-back design blocks out outside noise and has a dedicated noise-canceling function that’s highly effective.

  • Excellent mic quality
    • The mic is great for communicating during gameplay. The detachable mic picks up sound clearly and naturally and has an impressive frequency range of 5 Hz to 18 KHz, putting it in the top third of gaming headsets.

    • It also eliminates outside noises and has a signal-to-noise ratio of 67 dB, putting it in the top 5% of the gaming headset category.

  • Impressive build quality and design
    • The headphones are designed with faux leather and memory foam cushion to help enhance sound-canceling. The frame is also sturdy and made from high-quality aluminum.

  • Intuitive user experience
    • The headphones have robust controls, including a highly accurate volume dial, mute function, and augmented mode.

Reason to Avoid

  • Comfortability issues
    • The earcups can cause pain and fatigue during long listening sessions of several hours, given they are small and the headphones themselves clamp fairly tightly. Also, the round shape presses against the ears

  • No software
    • The headphones don’t have customization profiles or EQ options, given that they lack dedicated software.

  • Wired only connectivity
    • The headphones can’t be used more than 8 ft from the console, given it’s a wired-only connection.

The Logitech comes with Logitech G Hub software, allowing users to control audio and boom mic sound customization settings. However, the Beyerdynamic detachable boom mic is more dynamic, with a frequency ranging from 5-18,000Hz, while the Logitech has a frequency range of 88-12,700Hz. The Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT produces more dynamic highs but doesn’t reach as low as the Beyerdynamic MMX 150. The Corsair has a frequency range of 20-40,000Hz, while the Beyerdynamic model stretches from 5-30,000Hz. The Corsair also has a larger, more powerful 50mm driver compared to the Beyerdynamic’s 40mm driver. Connection-wise, the Corsais uses a Bluetooth wireless experience that reaches 60 ft, while the MMX 150 is wired-only and comes with an 8 ft chord. For a model with an even higher frequency range, check out our Audeze LCD-GX review.

Soundwise, the Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X is superior to the Beyerdynamic MMX 150. The DT 700 Pro X has a frequency range of 5-40,000Hz, while the MMX 150’s range is 5-30,000Hz. As a result, the DT 700 Pro X has a more immersive, accurate sound. Additionally, the DT 700 Pro X is more comfortable without diminishing its noise-canceling ability, given it uses velour cloth earpads, as opposed to the faux leather of the MMX 150.
