Product Snapshot
Overview
The Eero Pro 6E is the brand’s mid-range AX5400 home mesh router system, released in 2022. It comes with one, two, or three nodes for coverage ranging from 2000 to nearly 6000 square feet. This tri-band router includes seven antennae, three radios, a Zigbee radio, a user-friendly mobile app interface, and Thread networking protocol support.
Like most of the best routers today, it supports WiFi 6, WPA3 encryption, OMFDA data transmissions, and MU-MIMO simultaneous streaming. It can also connect via the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands that many devices still use, with theoretical speeds of up to 800 Mbps on 2.4 GHz WiFi. It has two WAN/LAN ports and a USB-C power cable but doesn’t have USB ports for data connectivity. It supports backhaul up to 1 Gbps.
The Eero Pro 6E delivers speedy data throughput, with up to 922 Mbps at close range and 375 Mbps at 30 feet, better than ¾ of routers tested. On the 5GHz network, its throughput performance is also better than most, with 750 Mbps at close range and 330 Mbps at 30 feet, faster than ⅔ of routers. Its 85-foot range and 2000-square-foot coverage are just average among routers. The Eero Pro 6E has a user-friendly mobile app, but unlike some competitors, it doesn’t include built-in parental control or network security software. Its 20 ms tested latency is average for WiFi 6 routers but trails dedicated gaming routers. Qos isn’t as accessible as on competing systems. The 6E lacks a USB port for connecting devices. Backhaul support is limited to 1 Gbps.
ReasonS to Buy
Good throughput speeds
Over 900 Mbps throughput on WiFi 6E devices, helpful for high-bandwidth uses like streaming and video conferencing.
Over 750 Mbps throughput on WiFi 5, outpacing ⅔ of routers.
Good coverage
Listed at 2000 square feet per node, its tested coverage is sufficient for most houses. There are few dead zones in most applications.
The three-node system boosts coverage to 6000 square feet.
Good smart device support
Built-in 802.15.4 radio provides Thread protocol support for connecting smart home devices without sacrificing WiFi bandwidth.
Supports Zigby-enabled smart home systems.
Reason to Avoid
Lacks included security and parental control features
Parental control costs extra as a monthly subscription feature.
Supports WPA3 encryption, but users will have to connect 3rd party network security software to enable all the Pro 6E’s security features.
Not as consistent as some WiFi 6E routers
Less consistent than competing tri-band and quad-band WiFi 6 routers.
Limited wired connectivity
The Pro 6E lacks USB ports for connecting devices.
Wired backhaul support limited to 1 Gbps.

While the Eero Pro 6E and Eero 6 Plus are both WiFi 6-capable mesh systems, the Pro 6E offers greater speeds than the 6 Plus. (The 6E delivers up to 922 Mbps tested throughput on WiFi 6 and 342 Mbps when using 5GHz at a 30-foot range, compared to 705 Mbps on WiFi 6 and 304 Mbps on 5GHz at 30 feet.) The Eero Pro has the same range as the Eero 6 but delivers increased coverage of 2000 square feet per node compared to 1500 square feet per node, meaning the 6E can be a useful upgrade over the less-expensive 6 Plus. Check out our Eero Max 7 review for another Eero router option.

The Eero Pro 6E displays higher throughput speeds in most situations than the Google Nest Wifi. (The 6E provided 342 Mbps on a 5GHz download test, while the Google Nest provided 222 Mbps.) However, the Google Nest boasts a higher signal range, with a max of 100 feet, compared to the Eero Pro 6E’s 85 feet. See our Google Nest WiFi review for more details.

The Eero Pro 6E performs slightly faster data throughput on both 6GHz and 5GHz bands than the Asus ZenWifi AX (XT8.) (The Eero with up to 922 Mbps on 6GHz tested, compared to the ZenWifi’s 918 Mbps on 6GHz.) However, the Asus mesh system provides more coverage, with 2500 square feet per node, compared to the 6E’s 2000 square feet per node. The Asus also provides easier network security and parental control setup and comes with USB ports for wired data connections, which the Eero routers skip out on. See our Asus ZenWiFi AX (XT8) review for a more in-depth analysis.
