The Epson EcoTank ET-8500 offers excellent value to families and small offices with its high-quality color and mono prints, massive page yield, and low running cost. Although the print speeds are average, the missing ADF could be the dealbreaker.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Epson EcoTank ET-8500 is a sturdy, mid-range SuperTank apt for small offices, home offices, and families with high printing requirements. Its printing costs are superbly low at 0.3 cents per page, and the 5760 x 1440 DPI print resolution ensures excellent quality prints with precise details. Scan resolution is impressive at  1200 x 4800 DPI, capturing detailed, sharp-looking text.

The ET-8500’s printing speeds are adequate but average at 13.4 PPM (mono) and 7.35 PPM (color), and so is the 6.48 dE color accuracy, all of which rank in the middle of our certified, tested list. The printer is compatible with the Epson Smart Panel app (iOS and Android) and has automatic duplex printing, but the lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF) makes it a poor option if you have intensive scan requirements.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Superior print quality
    • This all-in-one SuperTank is suitable for families and small offices with vast printing needs. Its 5760 x 1440 DPI print resolution is exceptional for retaining precise details in printouts.

  • Excellent scan quality
    • The 1200 x 4800 DPI scan resolution is excellent, with small details and text looking clear and sharp.

  • Minimal running cost
    • Running costs are exceptionally low at 0.3 cents per page, ranking the best among our verified, tested printers.

Reason to Avoid

  • Average printing speeds (mono)
    • The black-only printing speed of 13.4 PPM and color printing speed of 7.35 PPM are average but adequate for slow and moderate-paced work environments. These printing speeds rank in the middle of our certified, tested list.

  • No ADF
    • The missing automatic document feeder (ADF) makes the printer ill-equipped to handle large scanning requirements.

The Epson EcoTank ET-8500 and the Epson EcoTank ET-3850 have low running costs, making them perfect for extensive printing needs. But with a higher print resolution, the ET-8500 delivers more detailed mono and color prints than the ET-3850h. The ET-8500 is also better for scanning thanks to its higher scan resolution retaining details sharply.

The Epson EcoTank ET-8500 replaces the Epson EcoTank ET-7700 and packs some handy upgrades. The ET-8500 has a larger 4.3” touchscreen display than the ET-7700’s 2.7” color LCD (non-touch), is rated to print mono and color documents faster, and has a higher estimated page yield (4978 monochrome prints and 3319 color prints). WiFi connectivity is faster as well, and there’s support for connecting SD Cards.
