The 60Hz refresh rate may deter gamers, but the Insignia F30 Fire TV Edition is a fantastic budget-friendly smart TV with 4k resolution, making it suitable for casual viewers seeking a TV mainly for streaming content and smart device control.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Insignia F30 Fire TV Edition is a 2022-model budget 4K TV in sizes ranging from 43 to 70 inches. Standout features include a smart OS with Alexa voice control.

It uses an LCD screen and offers a remote control and a gaming mode. Its input options include USB ports, a coaxial jack, an ethernet port, RCA analog and optical digital audio, and an optical and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

An HDR mode increases dynamic range, but there’s no local dimming.

The F30 supports surround sound, and built-in speakers offer good sound quality. Unlike some of the best TVs, it has a 60Hz refresh rate. Like many of the best smart TVs on the market today, it has built-in voice remote functionality and makes a convenient smart home device hub.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Insignia F30 has a mediocre 288-nit peak brightness but has many input options and wide viewing angles, offering an enjoyable viewing experience from up to 36 degrees off-center.

HDR mode is a plus, but color accuracy suffers at maximum brightness. Performance falls short in dark rooms due to the low 1378:1 native contrast ratio and lack of deep blacks, and the 60Hz-refresh rate and tested 38 ms input lag are only average.

The low-frequency flicker at sub-maximum brightness could bother some users. The TV’s strength is its sharp 4K quality and accurate display before calibration.

Users looking for an affordable TV with good image consistency and smart features will find the F30 appealing. Still, it may not suit gamers, cinephiles, or those seeking premium home theater experiences.
