Product Snapshot
Overview
The JVC DLA-NZ8 is a high-end projector first announced in 2021. The 8K HDR projector has a brightness rating of 2500 lumens, and while the best projectors get a lot brighter, the NZ8 still gets bright enough for most users. It has a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours, a wide color gamut, and a cinema filter for 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
The projector can upscale 4K content to 8K through its 8K e-shiftX technology, and for output connectivity, it features two HDMI 2.1 inputs and has a decent 80,000:1 contrast ratio. It is also equipped with a 17-element, 15-group 65mm all-glass lens. It can render HDR10 and HDR10+ content and offers 3D visuals with separate glasses.
The JVC DLA-NZ8 is an excellent pick for a home cinema projector, but given its 23.1kg weight and large size, it’d be best to have it ceiling mounted. The projector has a native 4K UHD resolution (upgradeable to 8K) for sharp image quality and can render HDR10 and HDR1+ content. Thanks to its lamp-based light source, it also has excellent image consistency. Colors are also well-saturated courtesy of its 100% coverage of the DCI P3 color scale, and its 80,000:1 contrast ratio delivers deep blacks and bright whites. Also, with a 2,500-lumen brightness rating, its images really pop.
The NZ8 has a 20,000-hour life span, and adjustments on the lens are easy to make with ±80% vertical and ±34% horizontal lens shift possible through its motorized focus and digital vertical keystone correction.
ReasonS to Buy
Good brightness rating
The JVC DLA-NZ8 has a 2,500-lumen brightness rating, bringing out colors and making the image pop.
Its 80,000:1 contrast ratio is also perfect for deep, detailed blacks. However, it is designed for use in a dedicated dark room, not in a bright setting.
Sharp image quality
The NZ8’s image quality is vivid, courtesy of onboard technology that upscales 4K content into an 8K resolution. The projector’s 80,000:1 contrast ratio also helps display deep blacks and bright whites.
Its 91.5% coverage of the DCI-P3 scale places it in the top 30% of projectors in this category, ensuring rich colors.
Low 38ms input lag
Gamers will love that the NZ8 has a low 38ms input lag, for casual gameplay.
Reason to Avoid
Bulky in size
The NZ8 is quite large, so it isn’t easily mobile and is designed to be placed in a dedicated room.

The JVC DLA-NZ8 projector has a wide color gamut filter, which the JVC DLA-NZ7 does not, and as a result, it can’t quite reach 100% of the DCI-P3 color scale. The NZ8 also has an 80,000:1 contrast ratio, which is much better than the NZ7’s 40,000:1 contrast ratio. If the NZ8 sounds like a projector you’d be interested in, here’s our JVC DLA NZ7 review for you to check out.

The JVC DLA-NZ8’s 3000-lumen brightness rating is no match for the Sony VPL-FHZ85, which has a brightness rating of 6650 lumens. The Sony projector also has an automated filter cleaning system that the JVC projector does not, and the former’s 80,000:1 contrast ratio can’t quite stand up to Sony’s Infinity:1 ratio. We’ve covered the Sony projector in our Sony VPL FHZ85W review.

While the JVC DLA-NZ8 has an 80,000:1 contrast ratio, the JVC DLA-NZ9 is slightly better, as it boasts a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The NZ8’s 2500-lumen brightness rating is also inferior to the NZ9, rated at 3000 lumens, and finally, while the NZ8 uses a 65mm all-glass lens, the NZ9 has a 100mm lens.
