Product Snapshot

Overview

The LG Eclair QP5 is a 2021 model entry-level 3.1.2 channel soundbar that boasts an exceptionally compact and portable design while adding Dolby Atmos compatibility to provide a wider soundstage in home theaters.

Similar to some of the highest-rated speakers in the industry, it delivers crystal clear vocals and dialogues through its center channel speaker, thanks to its exceptionally low-frequency response slope.

And just like the most popular soundbars in the market, it comes with a dedicated wireless subwoofer unit that features the brand’s patented Vibration-dampening technology for users living in apartments and connects using Bluetooth, which is the only wireless streaming mode available.

However, if you simply don’t have the room for a separate subwoofer unit in your setup, do check out our Roku Streambar review today.

Its port selection includes one full-speed HDMI In, an optical audio port, and a USB port for playing back audio files. But if you need to make an AUX wire-based setup, explore our Klipsch Cinema 1200 review.

Consensus

our Verdict

The LG EClair QP5’s mobile app and Bluetooth connectivity are convenient, but the back-mounted controls and limited connection options pose drawbacks.

As for connection quality, it has fairly low latency but struggles when connected through ARC and Optical, which causes delays between the audio and visuals.

When it comes to sound quality, the LG Eclair QP5 offers a compact design and wide soundstage, but its bass performance falls short, impacting its ability to deliver the cinematic punch viewers crave.

The treble range sometimes lacks clarity, while voices and instruments can sound veiled. It attempts to tackle dialogue-centric content with a central channel but doesn’t get very loud.

The Eclair’s build quality is alright, but the fabric sides collect dust easily. This, with the subpar remote quality, makes it less appealing.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Bass and treble adjustments for fine-tuned audio
  • EQ presets of various sound profiles
  • Auto-volume mode adjusts volume levels
  • Wide soundstage for immersive audio experience for movies
  • Compact design for smaller living spaces
  • The metal grille protects drivers and enhances durability
  • Mobile app control for managing settings
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Easy setup and straightforward firmware updates
  • Reasonable price with a range of features

Reason to Avoid

  • Weak bass response limits the cinematic impact
  • Disappointing Atmos performance
  • Limited volume range for larger spaces
  • Inconsistent sound quality that varies across content types
  • Only supports Bluetooth connectivity
  • Fabric sides collect dust and require frequent cleaning
  • Back-mounted controls are not easily accessible
  • Soundstage inconsistencies
  • Vocals and instruments might lack clarity at times
  • Subpar and non-user-friendly remote

Despite both having a 3.1.2 channel speaker setup, the LG SP8YA features a better center-channel speaker than the LG Eclair QP5 soundbar, delivering a more immersive soundstage and better Dolby Atmos performance. The SP8YA also gets much louder (93 dB) with fewer audio crackles than the Eclair QP5 soundbar (86.8 dB) and features a room auto correction/calibration feature that is not present on the QP5. In addition, unlike the Eclair QP5 soundbar, the SP8YA has Wi-Fi, a built-in Chromecast module, and Apple AirPlay support for seamless wireless connectivity.

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 features a more comprehensive 5.0 channel speaker that performs much better than the LG Eclair QP5 soundbar when it comes to the soundstage and Dolby Atmos. The Sonos Beam Gen 2 also has a microphone for voice assistants to double as a smart speaker. However, the Eclair QP5 soundbar does come with a dedicated wireless subwoofer unit and a portable design, both of which the Sonos Beam Gen 2 lacks.

The JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam soundbar can easily beat the LG Eclair QP5 in regards to the soundstage and Dolby Atmos performance, thanks to its much wider 5.0 channel speaker setup. However, QP5 does have a dedicated wireless subwoofer unit and a portable design, both of which the JBL soundbar lacks. To learn more about the JBL soundbar, make sure to take a look at our JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam review today.
