The LG SL6Y is an affordable pick for users who are ready for an upgrade from their typical sound speakers but don’t want to invest in a high-end sound setup. The SL6Y’s sound is great for dialogue-focused content but not for surround sound or bass.
The LG SL6Y is a high-end 3.1-channel soundbar that was launched in 2019. It ships with a wireless subwoofer, and even though its lower bass range doesn’t match other top-shelf speakers, it comes with a center channel that ensures dialogue remains accurate.
Despite its lack of support for Dolby Atmos, its soundstage is good enough for owners to pinpoint where object sounds are coming from, and its range of inputs includes three HDMI ports and an Optical Audio in.
The best soundbars normally include an AUX port, but the SL6Y lacks this.
Still, owners will be able to stream their music through Bluetooth, and they’ll have to stick to this since it doesn’t support Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple AirPlay, or Chromecast.
The LG SL10YG is a much better alternative in this regard, as it supports WiFi and Bluetooth and has built-in Chromecast. Check it out in our LG SL10YG review.

our Verdict
The high-quality, 3.1-channel LG SL6Y soundbar has a below-average bass performance despite coming with a subwoofer, but its dedicated center channel ensures dialogues are clear, and its sound profile is best described as bright.
Unfortunately, its surround sound is poor due to missing satellite speakers and a lack of Dolby Atmos. While wireless connectivity is limited to Bluetooth, its latency performance is impressive, tested at 55ms over ARC and 64ms over optical for impeccable synchronization.
The port selection is also good, with one Optical Audio In, one HDMI ARC, one Full HDMI In, and a USB port for wired connections.
Overall, the LG SL6Y is a reasonable choice for anyone who wants to upgrade their TV’s sound quality, despite its lack of surround sound support and limited wireless connectivity.
