The NueueChair Obsidian adds convenience to its adjustability and has very high build quality. However, its headrest is purchased separately.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The NeueChair Obsidian is a high-end office chair first introduced into the market in 2019. The Obsidian exists in two color options, the other being Silver. While the chair doesn’t ship with a headrest, it is available as an add-on, which is typical for most highly-rated office chairs.

The chair’s backrest can be reclined at any angle between 85 and 130 degrees, and its armrests can be adjusted either up and down or side-to-side, making them two-directional. If you’d prefer four-directional adjustment, read about the best gaming chairs on the market. The Obsidian also offers lumbar support that is both height and depth adjustable, and a seat slide to configure the seat depth.

Consensus

our Verdict

The NeueChair Obsidian is a mid-back, full mesh office chair that’s easy to adjust. Owners can conveniently configure the seat height and recline lock through the levers on the bottom of its armrest, and its mesh back ensures good airflow, preventing back sweat when seated for long hours.

It also features an adjustable cushion for lumbar support that can be moved either up and down or forward and back. It features an adjustable seat height, backrest tilt, armrest height, and width adjustment. The chair’s build quality is top-tier, as evidenced by its ability to support up to 240 pounds. However, it doesn’t ship with a headrest by default. If you need alternatives that do, you might like our DXRacer Air series review or our X Chair X3 ATR Management chair review.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Good ergonomics and convenient adjustments
    • The NeueChair Obsidian office chair is highly adjustable, and with two levers located underneath the armrests, aspects such as seat height (19.3”-22.4”) and recline tilt lock can be adjusted easily.

    • Its seat height adjustment range of 4” is average compared to most chairs, but the best alternatives allow for up to 6” of adjustment.

  • Adjustable lumbar support
    • The NueueChair Obsidian offers adjustable lumbar support with a unique cushion that can be moved up, down, forward, or back.

  • Superior build quality
    • The chair’s sturdy aluminum build allows it to support up to 240 pounds, and keeps it in good condition over extended use.

Reason to Avoid

  • Headrest is offered as an add-on.
    • The chair’s headrest is not included by default, so buyers will have to spend more if they need one.

On the NeueChair, the headrest is separate from the back seat, making it different in design from the Razer Iskur Gaming Chair, which has a headrest that’s integrated into the backrest. Another difference is that the Razer Iskur has a bucket seat design, which differs from the more typical mesh seat design of the NeueChair. Check out our Razer Iskur Gaming Chair review if you’d like to see what else it offers.

While the NeueChair Obsidian doesn’t ship with a headrest by default, it is offered as an option. This makes it different from the Branch Verve Chair, which does not have one available. Another difference is in their backrest recline depth, as the Obsidian can recline up to 45°, while the Verve only tilts up to 20°. On the other hand, the Branch Verve has a higher 275-pound weight capacity than the Obsidian, rated at 240 pounds. We’ve also covered the former in our Branch Verve review if you’re interested.
