The Razer Barracuda Pro is a strong choice for a gaming headset, as it has a balanced sound profile mixed with great sound customization features and a comfy design. However, if you prioritize recording, the mic performs poorly.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Razer Barracuda Pro is a good option for gaming. The audio quality is balanced across bass, mids, and trebles, accurately depicting gaming environments. Users can access the companion app to customize sound and choose from EQ presets and other audio-enhancing features. The design also promotes comfort and long gaming sessions, as it has thick padding, wide adjustability, and a design that distributes weight evenly. Likewise, the battery lasts for 34.4 hours, making it ideal for long gaming sessions.

However, the headset has drawbacks, like poor microphone recording quality and sound production; it has a low-frequency extension range, which means the voice captured isn’t clear or natural soudning. It also has poor latency, tested at 36 ms, which produces delays between audio and visuals.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Good Audio Quality
    • Gaming audio comes through accurately and clearly, as the soundstage is balanced. It provides deep basses and distinguished trebles without overpowering the mid-range.

    • Vocals and mids are clear and present, making for a great overall soundstage.

  • Supreme Comfort
    • Gamers will experience little fatigue as the headset design uses thick earcup padding and a headband that distributes weight accurately, relieving pressure

  • Excellent App Support
    • Gamers can finetune and customize sound through the Razer Synapse 3 software, including features like THX Spacial Audio, a 10-band graphic EQ, and do-not-disturb mode.

Reason to Avoid

  • Subpar Mic Performance
    • The recording quality isn’t great, given the mic only has a 243-6,544 Hz frequency extension. It was rated 5.8/10, which is in the bottom 10% of tested mics.

  • Latency Issues
    • The headset experiences some delay between visuals and audio, as the headset tets in at 36 ms latency, which is slightly below average for a wireless gaming headset

Removing up to 23.92 dB of noise, the Razer Barracuda Pro is better at noise isolation than the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for Xbox, which removes about 18.92 dB. However, the SteelSeries device has a better 50-hour total battery life, which is better than the 34.4-hour total runtime of the Razer headset.

Equipped with leather padding, the Razer Barracuda Pro looks more premium than the older Razer Barracuda Wireless, which has cloth padding. Unlike the Barracuda Wireless, it also comes with a carrying case and boasts ANC. However, the Razer Barracuda Pro supports cable 3.5mm connections, which the Pro doesn’t. See our Razer Barracuda Wireless review if you prefer the analog cable-equipped device.

Featuring a more neutral sound profile, the Plantronics RIG 800LX is better for audiophiles than the Razer Barracuda Pro, which also has a well-balanced sound theme. However, the Razer Barracuda Pro boasts active noise cancelation, so it’s better for busy places than the Plantronics device. Check out our Plantronics RIG 800LX review to learn more.
