Consensus

our Verdict

When it comes to a gaming monitor, the Samsung Odyssey G85SB provides impeccable image quality with a color gamut that tests at 109.6% along with an Inf:1 contrast ratio, placing it as one of the best in the gaming monitor category. Furthermore, the wide 70-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles mean that image quality retains its quality even from off-center seating. The gaming features are equally impressive, with a 175 Hz refresh rate for smooth image handling and a rapid 3.45 ms response time that produces very little delay when inputting commands.

The main drawback, however, is the peak brightness, which sits at 237 nits, meaning the image quality degrades in brightly lit rooms.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Great image quality
    • The Samsung Odyssey G85SB QD-OLED monitor delivers superb visuals for gaming, media, and HDR content with deep blacks.

    • It offers a dynamic color range, with a 109.6% color gamut, and the OLED display tests at a near-perfect Inf:1 contrast ratio.

  • Fast response time
    • The screen changes pixels at a rapid pace, providing more accurate images during gameplay, given its response time of 3.4 ms. Overall, it ranks in the top 10% of tested gaming monitors.

  • Low input lag
    • The monitor delivers a fast response for command inputs, given its 13.4 ms input lag in the top half of our certified, tested gaming monitors. The result is virtually no delay when gaming in fast-paced settings.

  • Outstanding refresh rate
    • The monitor is incredible at refreshing new frames, leading to an exceptional and smooth gaming experience. At 175 Hz, it sits at the top of the gaming monitor category.

Reason to Avoid

  • Low peak brightness
    • The screen fails to display strong images in brightly lit rooms, given its peak brightness of 237 nits, which ranks in the bottom 10% of our certified gaming monitor list.

  • Subpar ergonomics
    • The monitor lacks any swivel whatsoever, limiting its ergonomic mobility.
