Consensus

our Verdict

The TP-Link Archer GX-90 is a good router for web browsing. Although its 279.6 Mbps 5 GHz download speed and 75.4 Mbps 2.4GHz download speeds are below average, they are adequate for home use. Like its Archer cousin discussed in our TP-Link Archer AXE75 review, the GX-90 features a low latency of just 20 ms, which ranks in the top 10% for its category and will please streamers.

With a vast range of connectivity options, including a dedicated gaming multi-gig LAN/WAN port, two USB interfaces, and four LAN connectors, this Wi-Fi 6 device is suitable for large homes and workplaces. A web console simplifies managing parental controls and security settings, including a guest network.

That said, this 802.11ax model has no inherent backhaul support and has a limited range measured at just 12.2 m, and if you need a longer-range Wi-Fi 6 router, check out our TP-Link Deco X2 review.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Ease of use
    • The TP-Link Archer GX-90 Wireless Router has a web console, with parental controls and lifetime network security software, so it is easy to use.

    • The TP-Link Archer GX-90 AX6600 Tri-band Wi-Fi 6 Gaming Router is suitable for gaming and streaming, clocking in at 75.4 Mbps in 2.4 GHz download, ranking below average for its category.

    • It clocks in at 279.6 Mbps in 5 GHz download speeds. It ranks below average for its category.

  • Middling Wi-Fi range
    • With a router range of just 12.2 m, the TP-Link Archer GX-90 Tri-band 802.11ax router has a limited reach and ranks the worst in its category. See our TP-Link Deco XE75 review for a router with a better range.
